For most Malaysian teams of two or more, ChatGPT Business is the place to start: $20 per user a month on annual billing (RM 78 shown in Malaysia), from 2 to 200 seats, with SSO and no training on your business data by default. Plus suits one person at $20 a month. Enterprise is quote-based, and earns its place when you need SCIM, data residency, invoicing or more than 200 seats.

Edu matches Enterprise on SSO, SCIM, ISO certifications and no training. The API is billed separately and is not included in any ChatGPT plan.

ChatGPT Business vs Enterprise

Business is self-serve. You need at least 2 seats and can have up to 200. Standard seats are $20 a user a month on annual billing, and Premium seats ($100) give 5x the usage for heavy users. It includes SAML or OIDC SSO, MFA, domain verification, an admin console and SOC 2 Type 2, and OpenAI does not train on your business data by default.

Enterprise is bought through OpenAI's sales team at a custom price. OpenAI's comparison table adds SCIM, Enterprise Key Management, role-based access controls, the Compliance API, IP allowlisting, ISO 27001/27017/27018/27701 and data residency, plus invoicing and 24/7 priority support with SLAs.

A simple rule: move to Enterprise when IT needs SCIM, finance needs invoices or purchase orders, you need data stored in a region such as Singapore, or you go past 200 seats. Self-serve Business takes credit and debit cards only.

One person

Plus, or Go for light use

Plus at $20 a month (RM 99.90 shown in Malaysia) covers most individual work. Turn off "Improve the model for everyone" if you use it for work content.

One very heavy user

Pro

Pro 100, 200 or 500 ($100 to $500 a month) is for one person who keeps hitting limits. It is still a personal plan, with no admin console or SSO.

Teams of 2 to 200

Business

Default everyone to Standard seats, and give Premium seats only to the heavy users. You get SSO, an admin console and no training on your data by default.

Large or regulated

Enterprise

For SCIM, data residency, invoicing, the Compliance API or more than 200 seats. Quote-based, through OpenAI sales.

Pay per token, in USD. Use it to build agents and integrations; it is billed separately from any ChatGPT seat.

04 · PDPA and your data

ChatGPT, PDPA and your company data

The plan you choose changes the controls you have. It does not change your own duties under Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), or Singapore's if you operate there.

On Free, Go, Plus and Pro, OpenAI may use your content to train its models, and users can opt out. On Business, Enterprise, Edu and the API, OpenAI does not train on your data by default.

OpenAI will sign a Data Processing Addendum for Business, Enterprise and the API. Data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2+). Data residency includes Singapore but not Malaysia, and it is for eligible Enterprise, Edu and API customers; for Business it is still rolling out.

Do not run company work on personal plans. If someone must, turn off "Improve the model for everyone" under Settings, Data controls.
Use Business or Enterprise for teams, and sign OpenAI's Data Processing Addendum.
Write down which data must never go into ChatGPT, such as IC numbers or customer bank details.
Set a retention period in the admin console. Deleted chats are removed within 30 days.
If data location matters, ask about Singapore data residency on Enterprise or the API.

Key caveats

OpenAI changes prices often. Pro was re-tiered in late September 2026, and Business Premium seats are new. Check OpenAI's pricing page before you buy.
"Shown in Malaysia" prices are OpenAI's ringgit list prices, not conversions, so they do not match USD x exchange rate exactly.
ChatGPT Business does not include API usage. The API is billed separately, in USD.

Common questions about ChatGPT plans in Malaysia

On 8 October 2026, OpenAI showed Malaysian visitors these prices: Free RM 0, Go RM 24 a month, Plus RM 99.90 a month, Pro from RM 420 a month, and Business RM 78 per user a month billed annually (RM 97 monthly). In USD, Plus is $20, Pro is $100 to $500 and a Business Standard seat is $20 annual or $25 monthly. Enterprise and Edu are quote-based.

A Standard seat is $20 per user a month billed annually or $25 billed monthly (RM 78 or RM 97 shown in Malaysia). A Premium seat with 5x the usage is $100 annual or $125 monthly. A workspace needs at least 2 seats and can have up to 200.

Yes for standard paid plans: ringgit (RM) is a supported billing currency for Malaysia on chatgpt.com. API credits are bought in USD only, and Enterprise and Edu are billed separately. We can also buy ChatGPT Business and Enterprise seats on your behalf and bill you in RM with a local invoice.

ChatGPT Team was renamed ChatGPT Business on 29 August 2025. It is the same self-serve team plan, now with Standard and Premium seats.
